SSTRIDE

SSTRIDE is an outreach program sponsored by the Florida State University College of Medicine to help ensure that students wanting a career in medicine have access to a stringent curriculum with frequent labs, relevant field trips, shadowing and community service opportunities. Some of the community service activities include working with the Chamber of Commerce Health Fair, doing blood pressure checks at the Chamber Breakfasts, participating with the Hospice Journaling Program, performing blood pressure and blood sugar checks in the community, and Red Ribbon Week presentations at the middle schools. SSTRIDE stands for Science Students Together Reaching Instructional Diversity and Excellence. SSTRIDE begins in middle schools and continues at Crestview High School through the senior year. Should a student decide to go to FSU, SSTRIDE will continue through college.

Students interested in SSTRIDE should fill out a SSTRIDE Application and contact Mrs. Hazel Holmes at 689-7177, extension 3460.
