Learning a language in the classroom is one thing. Being able to actually communicate in French with high school students from France takes learning to a whole new level. Because Crestview has a Sister City in France, CHS French students are able to do just that. In 2009, 2012, and again last year, twenty CHS students hosted a student from Noirmoutier, our Sister City, for two weeks.
The “Noirmoutrins” spent several days at school with us, and we also introduced them other aspects of life in Northwest Florida, like the beach, Halloween, and the Seacrest Wolf Preserve. Many of us are still in touch with them via the Internet.
Meanwhile, food is an extremely important aspect of French culture that French Club members always enjoy exploring. We use French recipes to make crepes, chocolate truffles, mousse, ratatouille, quiche, and both chocolate and cheese fondues. We also play games in French, like Twister, Guess Who, and Pétanque, a cross between bowling and horseshoes. All French students get to share in some of these activities in class, including Pétanque and crepes. Bon appétit!
