Crestview Battles Gulf Breeze in First Round of the Playoffs

November 17, 2017 | Joey

The Crestview Bulldogs took on the Gulf Breeze Dolphins in the first round of the Florida 6A playoffs. District 6A-3 champions Crestview seeded #2 in region 1 of the 6A bracket and district 6A-2 runners up Gulf Breeze seeded #7 collided at Jack Foster Stadium for the regional quarterfinals on the 10th of November.

The two teams last met in the 2016 regular season finale where Gulf Breeze won handily 37-13 at Crestview to spoil their chances at a perfect 10-0 regular season.

The game itself started quick with a 57-yard touchdown run by Gulf Breeze running back Tyler Dittmer that put the Dolphins up 7.

Crestview promptly responded with a drive of their own pushing down the field deep into dolphin territory. The drive was ended when a tipped ball landed in the handsĀ  of a Gulf Breeze defender.

It wasn’t until the second quarter did Crestview tie the game back up with a 35-yard rushing touchdown by Jay Stanton.

Again, Gulf Breeze went back on top with Tyler Dittmer rushing touchdown.

Crestview, again, was able to tie it up going into the half due to a 15 yard touchdown pass from Rod Bouchard to Keon Voisin.

After a wonderful performance from the Big Red Machine at the half, the two teams kept trading blows.

Going into the fourth and final quarter, Crestview held a 31-21 lead.

Facing a fourth down at the Gulf Breeze 25 yard line, Crestview attempts a fake field that goes terribly wrong and turns into 40-yard fumble return for the dolphins setting them up for a 38-yard touchdown pass from Dylon Kelley to Tyler Dittmer to make it a 27-31 game with 7 minutes left.

Crestview responded with a 59-yard touchdown pass from Rod Bouchard to Jaden Voisin to regain their 10 point lead and essentially put the game to bed.

Gulf Breeze would make an attempt at a comeback but a clutch interception by Jaden Voisin would have the dolphins ultimately fall 38-35.

The dolphins season ended while Crestview will go on next week to play the Escambia Gators in the regional semifinals.
