Concert in the Park

December 14, 2015 | Alana Berry

Concert in the park was a fundraiser on Saturday, November 21st sponsored by the Cretsview Rotary club. It was an event for the Big Red Machine’s uniform fund. Gates opened at 11:30 and closed at 2:00. Admission was $10 and children under 5 got in for free. The band has also had other fundraisers to contribute to the uniform fund such as selling cookie dough, cheesecake, oranges, and many other things. The band intends to raise the uniform money so that they may wear them at the Indianapolis 500 parade on the band trip at the end of the school year.

This event took place at the Old Spanish Trail Festival grounds. There were performances by the Wind Ensemble, both jazz bands, trumpet and trombone ensembles, and the entire Big Red Machine playing their show, Latin Fire; which consists of Brazil, Spain/Aranjuez, and Malaguena. It was the last time the Big Red Machine will perform the Latin Fire show. There were food vendors, knocker balls, a rock wall, and a trampoline to accompany the band. Additionally, there were raffles in between performances for prizes such as a vacation to Orlando and a guitar from Upbeat Music.

I, myself, participated in this fundraiser as a member of the Big Red Machine. This was a day of great performances and fun all for a good cause. All profits from vendors and admittance will be donated to the bands uniform fund.
