Kyler Stratton, a student at Crestview High School, passed his certification exam. Paw Prints recently caught up with Kyler to get his perspective on the test. :

What was expected of you to accomplish the certification exam?

Remembering health and safety laws. [for example]: temperatures to cook different foods, and lighting requirements for different rooms.

Did you feel prepared enough for the certification?

Yes, however it was still scary.

Does this certification help in any way with your future career choice?

Not really, however, it can help with high school /college jobs.

How does the culinary certification help with high school/college jobs?

Most high school/ college students will work in a restaurant or fast food, being certified can get you a higher pay and increase your chances of getting the job.

What is your future career choice?

I would love to get a computer science degree, however culinary is a good runner up.

What is your advice for future students who will be taking the certification?

Study the little things, study your cooking temperatures and really study your pathogens.

Is there anything else you would like to add about the Culinary certification?

Don’t stress about it, if you don’t get it the first time you can always try again next year.
