Awards Given for Top Teacher and Support Staff

November 14, 2017 | Kaleigh O'Neill

This year, Yolanda Porter won Teacher of the Year and Support Staff of the Year went to Paula Sutton.

Porter was given the award after exemplary efforts in helping her students learn to create and do several school-worthy projects (such as designing a new gym floor) as well as teaching her Digital Design Class. Teachers nominate one another. The nominees are then voted on by other teachers based on their biography.  The teacher who is selected gets a day off from school along with a plaque and flowers. Once selected for this award at CHS, the teacher qualifies for the Teacher of the Year award for all of Okaloosa County.

Also this year, another award was handed out to Paula Sutton, who was chosen because of her work as a student aide. Support staff winners are determined by the entire school district and they must have recommendations by the school in which they work. Several staffers are chosen, but each school only has one winner.
